Hello You!

Thanks for checking out my site.

I’ll be honest with you. I started this because life was getting a little out of hand.

I didn’t know what was going on, even with a calendar on my phone!

So, I decided, as much for my own sake as anything else to try and organise it a little better, and thought laying most of it out on a website might help if you’re trying to track me down, or I’m trying to figure out where I should be.

Here’s the broad back story.

Born in Inverness.

Inverness Castle

Cauldeen Primary.

Cauldeen Primary School, Inverness – I didn’t think it looked like a prison at the time.

Inverness Royal Academy.

Inverness Royal Academy – I didn’t think this looked like a prison at the time either.

Inverness College for an SNC in Media Studies

Glenrothes College for an HNC in Radio. No photos of the old campus appeared on a search. Assume it looked like a prison.

And from there I had to complete a period of work experience at a local BBC station and a local Commercial Radio station.

I went home and spent three weeks at BBC Radio Highland.

BBC Radio Highland, Inverness

And three weeks at Moray Firth Radio in Inverness.

MFR’s First Logo.

Except the latter turned into three years. It was there I got a really broad understanding and education for everything radio. I remember one of the staff members turning to me one day and saying, “You’ll do a bit of everything here, 15 jobs maybe, and never get paid for it. Then you’ll go somewhere else, find you only have to do one of those jobs, and get paid. It’ll feel like free money and a holiday!”

He was right.

I realised I was never going to get something full time at the station and ended up applying for jobs elsewhere.

Stupidly, this lot took a punt on me.

I stayed there for over 20 years, and in that time, settled in the area, got married and started a family. I still live in the area today.

Except, in 2016, I moved stations and started working in Glasgow for these guys.

Smooth Radio

Currently, I work around the UK in various locations for Smooth, and occasionally in Aberdeen, here.

Original 106

Oh, and I’m also a regular contributor here.

BBC Radio Scotland

And since 2005, I’ve been the Match Day Stadium Announcer, here, with my first love.

Aberdeen Football Club

The thing is, I also have my own business.

Mellis Media

And just recently, I’ve written an ebook and launched an online course specifically designed to help businesses and business owners get started in the world of podcasting as part of their marketing mix.

And then there’s the VoiceOver side of things.

STV – Quality Meat Scotland

So, really, I’m just trying to untangle all this stuff for myself as much as anything else, and thought it might make things easier for you along the way if I set up the site.

So if you want to find out about the Dons, click Football.

Anything to do with my ‘on air’ whereabouts, you’ll find in Radio.

Ever thought about starting your own podcast, but really have no idea where to begin? Maybe I can help over in the Podcasts Section.

Or, if you want to book my voice for your project – check out VoiceOver

Finally, I write a bit as well, and you can find my latest thoughts on most things, in the Blog.

As I say, thanks for visiting, and if there’s anything you’d like to ask, then please do so on my Contact page.
